I have had quite a few people ask me what kind of shotgun that I recommend as a home defense gun. I have to say that I love the first one introduced to me in the military, the Remington 870 shotgun. I actually carried it on patrol a couple times and countless times used it as a door breaching tool. It is solid, dependable and American made.
I found a nice video that talks about the Remington 870. He gives a good demo of its features and capabilities. There is good demonstration of loading and operation.
I have covered it here and here, but I do take exception to the whole “shotgun racking” bit. If you pick up a shotgun or any weapon for that matter, you should be ready to take it to whatever needs to be done for home defense. If you pump your shotgun “hoping” the intruder is going to run away, you are not in the right mindset.
